What is Xinyang Maojian Tea?
Xinyang Maojian, also known as Yu Maofeng, is a green tea. It is one of the top ten famous teas in China and one of the famous specialties in Henan Province. The name ‘Mao Jian’ translates as ‘fur tips’ and it refers to the appearance of the young tea leaves when they are plucked – they are covered with tiny ‘hairs’ or ‘fur’.
This Xinyang Maojian tea opens up with a rich, grassy vegetal flavor, savory upfront with a warm sweetness that lingers afterward and then deepens in later steps. It’s a surprisingly bold taste for green, and the dry leaves are long and thin.
